Over a 5-day period, we are proud to give women angels across the country their start in early-stage start-up investing. This program is designed to directly impact the Canadian tech ecosystem by ushering in a new cohort of Canadian women investors into the technology and innovation industry.

Without the support of BDC Capital’s Women in Technology Venture Fund, initiatives like ours wouldn’t be possible. By providing women interested in angel investing with the right knowledge, tools and networks to learn how to invest in private early stage companies, we have the opportunity to expand the available capital in key emerging regions of the country, as well as strengthen the depth of diverse mentorship necessary to support the early growth of start-ups.

The crash course in start-up investing gathers women angel investors (new and aspiring) together for a week-long learning experience that serves as an onramp into the world of angel investing. The program brings together industry guests and seasoned investors with a track record of success, with start-up founders who are seeking capital to create a ripple effect of diversity in the tech ecosystem. At Future Capital, we are laser-focused on adding more diverse investors to the cap table and expanding the investment pool for diverse underrepresented founders.

Based on our research, underrepresented groups and newcomers to the world of investing require education and community to break into the industry. Education can close the gaps in one's knowledge-base and assist them in understanding early-stage angel investing. The community enables green investors to see, experience, and talk about investment opportunities; as one looks at more deals, they will develop a set of competencies around angel investing and an understanding of a new asset class.

The women who complete the program gain:

  • Access to a new network of peers, subject matter experts, mentors and potential partners through our cohort-style learning experience

  • Access to experienced angel, institutional and career investors who are active in the Canadian ecosystem

  • Opportunities to engage directly with start-up founders who are raising capital through the program’s Live Pitch session

  • Complete access to our growing list of tools and resources

Our team is excited to bring a new method for unlocking capital to emerging tech regions that need it most. By partnering with BDC Capital’s Women in Technology Venture Fund, we will continue to diversify and strengthen the Canadian innovation ecosystem across all industries. In case you don’t know, the Women in Technology Venture Fund is one of the world’s largest venture capital fund dedicated to investing in women-led technology companies and helping build a robust ecosystem to support women in tech today and in the future. They are making a big impact in the women in tech ecosystem and we are thrilled to have them as a partner.
