What is your leadership story, how did you get to the roles that you’re in today?

Bobbie:

I'm a newish leader. If you would have asked me five, six, seven or eight years ago if I would be a leader of a scaling start up I would have thought you were crazy. I am not only a hardcore introvert, I am also a behind-the-scenes type gal. And so my journey and roadmap to leadership has evolved and grown in the last 5 years. One of the main things that I've learnt is that I'm going to have  to lead myself before I can lead others. That is something that I had no idea about. I'm just cluing into that now 5 years into my entrepreneurship. I started off in oil and gas before I came into this company. I was a high angle safety technician and I worked my way up into being the main foreman for some pretty large shutdowns for oil and gas companies. My pivot was when the layoffs happened and I started Virtual Gurus but I never thought that it would get this big.

I was learning to lead myself and lead managers and then to lead an executive team. It's a little bit tough because you're leading all these people that have 20 years more experience than you do. It has been daunting yet a completely growing and learning task. I think I’ve figured it all out and we are now on our way to scale massively as a company which is great to see. It's also amazing to see that I was able to get through my journey and make it to where I am now. I still have a long way to go and lots to learn though.
